Crypto Glossary
Plain-English definitions of every term used by the Blind Monkeys scanner.
Scan Criteria
Z-Score
How far a coin's current price deviates from its recent average, expressed in standard deviations. A Z-score below −1 means the coin is meaningfully cheaper than its recent history. Blind Monkeys uses Z-score as one of four composite criteria.
Momentum
The rate of recent price change. Higher momentum means the coin is moving up faster relative to its own recent history. Required threshold: above 5 (Conservative) or above 10 (Risk-Taker).
Volatility
How widely a coin's price swings over time. Low volatility means calm, predictable movement; high volatility means choppy, unpredictable swings. Capped at 8 (Conservative) or 25 (Risk-Taker).
RSI (Relative Strength Index)
A 0–100 scale measuring whether a coin is overbought or oversold. Above 70 is typically considered overbought; below 30 oversold. Required: below 70 (Conservative) or below 60 (Risk-Taker).
Composite Score
A single number combining multiple indicators to rank coins. Blind Monkeys combines Z-score, momentum, volatility, and RSI. Higher scores indicate coins meeting more criteria more strongly.
Lookback Period (20 Days)
The amount of price history each indicator is computed over. In the Conservative and Risk-Taker scans, every coin is fetched with 20 days of daily prices, and the Z-score, volatility, momentum, and RSI are all measured against that one-month window — so a Z-score of −1.5 means the coin is 1.5 standard deviations cheaper than its own recent month. Twenty days is long enough for statistics like standard deviation to be meaningful, short enough to reflect the current market era. Long scans use 90 days instead.
Learned Weights
Scoring factors whose weights adjust automatically from real trading results rather than being fixed by hand. Each factor starts at an equal weight (0.25); after every closed position, factors that predicted successful trades gain weight and factors that mislead lose weight — so the scanner slowly learns which indicators to trust. Conservative Scan
Profile looking for mildly oversold coins with modest momentum and low volatility. Z-score < −1, momentum > 5, volatility < 8, RSI < 70. Fewer, safer candidates — best for calm markets.
Risk-Taker Scan
Profile looking for deeply oversold coins with strong momentum, allowing higher volatility. Z-score < −1.5, momentum > 10, volatility < 25, RSI < 60. More aggressive candidates — best for choppy markets.
Market Structure
Market Regime
The overall, persistent condition of the market — the context that determines which strategies work. Blind Monkeys classifies the market as sideways, upward, or downward, detects it from BTC/ETH behavior, momentum, volatility, and macro sentiment, and runs a different automated strategy in each. Fear & Greed Index
A sentiment gauge on a 0–100 scale. Low values indicate extreme fear; high values indicate extreme greed. Extreme fear often coincides with oversold conditions.
Contango
A futures market condition where futures contracts trade higher than the current spot price. Typically signals expectations of higher future prices or a premium paid to hold positions forward.
Backwardation
The opposite of contango — futures contracts trade below current spot price. Often signals near-term supply tightness or strong current demand relative to the future.
Risk & Safety
Risk Management Philosophy
A defense-first, layered approach: 3x maximum leverage, daily caps on futures and grid deployment, small $100-baseline orders with 25% up/down compounding, a hard take-profit and stop-loss on every position, at most 3 concurrent futures positions, and regime gating so each strategy only trades where it has an edge. The goal: any single trade can fail without meaningfully damaging the account. Read more →
Regime Pause (BTC 7d Drift)
A safety gate on automatic grid creation: when Bitcoin's 7-day price drift falls to or below a configurable threshold (default −5%), the system stops opening new grid bots, because a meaningful BTC decline drags altcoins down with it and breaks grids out of their ranges. Grids already running are unaffected, and manual opens stay free — the gate only pauses the automation. A threshold of −100 turns the gate off entirely.
Trailing TP
A take-profit that arms at the TP level but does not close immediately — instead it follows profit upward and closes when profit retraces by a set amount (the retrenchment, default 1% of invested funds) from its peak. The worst case after arming is TP minus the retrenchment (3% − 1% = 2%); the best case is unlimited, because the exit line keeps climbing with the position. Futures use Bybit's native trailing stop (converted to margin terms by dividing by leverage); grid bots use an app-side trailing manager because Bybit's native grid trailing requires a 5% minimum retrenchment.
Futures Order Compounding
The rule that sizes each new futures order. Orders start from a $100 baseline, grow 25% after each take-profit, and shrink 25% after each stop-loss, with a $10 floor and the daily-cap ceiling. Read more →
Platform
API
A contract that lets one system request data or actions from another over the network. Blind Monkeys is built almost entirely out of APIs — Bybit for trading, Telegram for alerts, Binance for market data, Cloudflare for DNS and analytics, seven LLM APIs for AI visibility, and Google Cloud APIs for infrastructure. The platform holds no custody: it only sends instructions under your keys. Read more →
Safety & Custody
Non-Custodial
The platform never holds your funds. You retain full control of your assets at all times. Blind Monkeys is non-custodial and never requests a wallet connection or deposit.
Wallet Connection
Linking a crypto wallet to a site so it can read balances or request transactions. Blind Monkeys never requests a wallet connection — there is nothing to connect.
Bot Performance
Win Rate
The percentage of closed positions that ended profitable. Blind Monkeys tracks win rate across bots shown on the Dart Performance panel.
Net P/L
Net profit or loss after fees. Blind Monkeys displays Net P/L for each bot and aggregates it across the full bot list.
